Studio portrait of VX48347 Corporal (Cpl) Leslie Allan (Peter) Chitty, 2/2nd Motor Ambulance Convoy. Cpl Chitty enlisted on 25 July 1940 at Cudgewa, Vic. He was awarded the British Empire Medal on 5 March 1947 for 'Valuable service & devotion as POW in BURMA & SIAM'. During his time as a POW, he took part in an Australian Rules Football match at which he was awarded the 'Changi Brownlow', a reference to a Victorian Football League (VFL) medal awarded to the best player across the football season. This medal is in the Collection of the AWM at REL32808. See also P04922.001.
