Description

Sunday - Rest Day - activities Binh Dinh Buddist Temple. LAC's Rob Giddings armament fitter, 44638 Robert Lindsay 'Dan' Doudle Instrument Fitter. 222996 Allan Costello - airframe fitter. Local Vietnamese kids 218809 Cpl Frederick Arthur Mascord - engine fitter, driving the Land Rover - long wheel base, down from 'Radar Hill' at Vung Tau. We run out of fuel - damn. The tap on the fuel tank selector is broken. RAAF Corporal's Quarters House maids Hein and Swai - folding clothes.The 'Swinging Sisters' - grass cutters - by hand. Australian Rules Football played on the local Police Academy Soccer Field. The RAAF had one team against 14 Australian Army teams. 1968 the Army were premiers. 1969 the RAAF were premiers - we got a new Captain/Coach - Cpl Les Brisco - barracks electrician. We had to take our eight goal posts with us to the weekly games. Journey by truck from the game back to home RAAF Base Vung Tau. Rugby Union footy on a soccer field in Vung Tau. All RAAF teams at the Lord Mayor's Oval. Back beach BBQ. 9 Squadron RAAF members a weekly event on a Sunday. Here comes the 'Snakes' - SNCOs Cooking the steaks. The ladies - Australian nurses. Beach football. Drink more 'Coldies' - Aussie beers - and enjoy yourself. Ouch - one way to get the sand off the body - ice cold 'Esky' water!
