History / Summary

Thabet Subeih, a Yemeni national, was born in Bombay, India around 1878-1880. By the time of the First World War he was living in East Fremantle, Western Australia and employed as a Tea and Coffee merchant. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 19 October 1915 with the surname 'Suby' and was assigned the rank of Private and the service number 3937. On 12 February 1916 he embarked on HMAT Miltiades with 9 Reinforcements of 28 Battalion. His service record states he served in the Middle East, England and France before embarking for return to Australia on 17 March 1917. Once back in Western Australia he was discharged medically unfit on 1 June 1917. On 7 September that year he joined Number 5 District Guard in Fremantle and served with them for a year. On 11 October 1918 he was discharged medically unfit from this unit, aged 40.
