History / Summary
Associated with the First World War service of 62512 Private Joseph Henry Allen, a telephone mechanic of Unley, South Australia, who enlisted on 21 June 1918, aged 18. He was allocated to the General Service Reinforcements but had not left Australia before the war ended. Allen was discharged on 31 January 1919 due to 'medical unfitness'. During the Second World War, he served on a part time basis as a telephone specialist with the 4th Australian Lines of Communication (Post Master General's) Signals Unit, which was raised in May 1942.
