Studio portrait of Captain (Capt) Ross Harwood, Distinguished Service Order (DSO), Headquarters, 16th Battalion, of Perth, WA. Capt Ross enlisted on 3 November 1914 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic on 22 December 1914. He was awarded the DSO on 2 September 1916 and although wounded, he led his company of only 120 men on to capture 150 German prisoners in an attack to the north of Houquert Farm.
