Description

Blue, wide brimmed sun hat with United Nations emblem machine embroidered in white on the front. The hat has a wire brim and a black chin strap with an adjustable black plastic toggle. There are four metal eyelets around the crown and written in black texta inside the hat is 'COLLINS AUSTCIVPOL'. Inside the crown of the hat is a pocket secured with a Velcro strip. A maker's label is sewn into the sweatband and shows a Kiwi and 'hills'.

History / Summary

Worn by Steven Collins of the Australian Federal Police during his service with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) in 2004. UNFICYP was established on 4 March 1964 to prevent fighting between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities and also to contribute to the maintenance and restoration of law and order.
