1x Copy of three telegrams from the RAAF to Flying Officer Short’s father, Mr Walter Short, Melbourne, 20-26 March 1946. These telegrams inform Mr Short of Flying Officer Short’s death in an aircraft accident in Japan.

History / Summary

Flying Officer Murray Geoffrey Short enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 5 February 1942, after a period of service with the Australian Army. He served with 82 Squadron during the Second World War, and continued to serve with the squadron after the war as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. On 18 March 1946, Flying Officer Short was piloting a Mustang aircraft for a ferry flight from Labuan, Borneo, to Bofu, Japan, when he was caught in bad weather and crashed on the shores of Shikoku. He is buried at Yokohama War Cemetery, Japan.
