A special bond of comradeship has developed between the Australian Army’s crack Special Air Service troops and the helicopter crews of the No 9 Squadron, in Vietnam. No 3 Special Air Services (3SAS) Squadron is scheduled to return to Australian soon, so the men of both services met on the helipad at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) based at Nui Dat to exchange greetings. 335048 Major (Maj) John Matthew Murphy, of Perth, WA, (right) Commanding Officer of 3SAS Squadron presented No 9 Squadron’s Commanding Officer, O33062 Wing Commander (Wing Cdr) Roy Stewart Royston, of Canberra, ACT, (left) with a Soviet Mosinmagant M1944 carbine captured from the Viet Cong (VC) mounted on a board. Shown here are members of No 9 Squadron and 3SAS Squadron in front of two No 9 Squadron helicopters, watching the presentation.
