Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of documents and correspondence related to UNMOGIP and Artis' service as a Military Observer with the organisation from 1958 to 1960 and again from 1964 to 1965. The collection includes Artis' United Nations identity cards from both tours, his Jammu and Kashmir driving licence, his Commonwealth of Australia international driving permit, and a four-page document (dated 13 August 1948) on the historical background of UNMOGIP. The collection also includes a permit, signed by UNMOGIP's Chief Military Observer Lieutenant General Robert Nimmo, authorising the movement of Artis and his family from Rawalpindi to Srinagar via the Sialkot/Jammu border, three maps of UNMOGIP's zones of operation along the Pakistan border, a letter from Nimmo to the executive assistant to the Secretary-General of the United Nations commending Artis' services, three newspaper clippings from the 1960s regarding UNMOGIP, and a 1970 letter from Lieutenant General Luis Tassara to Artis regarding Nimmo. Correspondence between Artis and Lieutenant Colonel Neil James in 1990, regarding General Nimmo and containing Artis' comments on James' article on the former Chief Military Observer, are also with the collection. The correspondence also mentions fellow former UNMOGIP observer, Major James Copeman.
