Description

The separated tail boom and fuselage of the Iroquois UH-1H helicopter gunship, A2-382, of No 9 Squadron RAAF, lying side by side on steel reinforcing plates that have been laid out over the uneven ground. The Iroquois ‘Bushranger’ was forced to undertake a beach landing in the Long Hai Hills when it was hit by ground fire on 20 June 1970, damaging the engine and fuel tank. Overnight it sustained further damage from sea water and it was written off. It was later salvaged and is shown here after being transported by a Chinook helicopter and stripped of its armaments.
