Seaman's bell bottom trousers : Seaman E G Short, Sea Cadet Brigade
Seaman's navy blue wool serge bell bottom trousers with fall front. The back waist sections, which meet at the front and fasten with three black plastic buttons, are lined with grey/brown cotton; the fall front, which is lined with light grey cotton, fastens to the back waist sections with four black plastic buttons. Although the buttons are all of the same diameter, they are not made by the same manufacturer: most are plain, with either a flat or a raised rim; two are impressed 'MURDOCH'S SYDNEY', and one 'B.G. BURT LTD BRISBANE'. A small improvised black cotton patch pocket has been roughly sewn to the proper right back waist section. It is concealed by the fall front.
Edgar George 'Ted' Short was born in Waverley, Sydney in 1921 and attended Sydney Grammar, Waverley Public and Randwick High Schools.
Short was a member of the Sea Cadets during the 1930s and was working as a toolmaker during the Second World War. This was a reserved occupation during the war and as a result, he had no military service.
