Studio portrait of 6786A Private John Leslie Daniel, 21st Battalion of Daylesford, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 21 November 1917. On 8 August 1918, aged 20, he was killed in action near Amiens, France. He is buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France.
