Studio portrait of 5711 Private (later Lance Corporal) Robert Bruce Liston, 8th (later 46th) Battalion of Maryborough, Victoria. A teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ayrshire (A33) on 3 July 1916. On 11 April 1917, during an attack on the Hindenburg Line, he was killed in action near Bullecourt, France, aged 24. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
