Studio portrait of 3170 Private Edmund Ramsden Lyall, 21st (later 2nd Pioneer) Battalion of Berwick, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 18 November 1915. On 14 November 1916, he was killed in action near Flers, France, aged 22. He is buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.
