Description
A German Albatros D5A Scout aircraft Serial No. 5390/17 brought down by members of the Australian Flying Corps, near Armentieres on 17 December 1917. Both the airmen concerned, Lieutenant L. Sandy and Sergeant Gunner H. F. Hughes, were killed in the engagement and their machine flew uncontrolled for many miles and finally landed. During the combat in which they both were killed. Identified, left to right: Second Air Mechanic A. M. Lovegrove; Sergeant Mechanic P. J. Pearce; Chief Mechanic V. Ennis.
