Studio portrait of 1784 Private (later Corporal) Stanley McLennan, 13th Battalion, of Bibbenluke via Bombala, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 17 March 1915. On 10 July 1917, aged 22, he was killed in action near Messines, Belgium, when an enemy shell caused an explosion in a supply of bombs near where he was on duty. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
