Studio portrait of 6849 Driver (later Sergeant) Arthur Stanley Upward, 10th Company Australian Service Corps (later Australian Army Ordnance Corps 4 Division) of St Kilda, Victoria. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Berrima (A35) on 28 June 1915. On 2 May 1918, he was killed in action near Amiens, France aged 33. He is buried in the Camon Communal Cemetery, France. His brother, 2499 Private Frederic Hugh Upward, 56th Battalion, was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium on 23 September 1917.
