History / Summary

Related to the service of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hugh Lofts, Australian Army, who served with the United Nations Operation in the Congo (ONUC) in 1960 and United Nations Truce Supervision Organization, Middle East (UNTSO) for a few years thereafter. The hat was given to him as an example of a worker's hat when he visited an Israeli kibbutz and he subsequently decorated it with badges and buttons given to him by other peacekeepers in UNTSO.
