Pater Award, consisting a a tiered glass pyramid made up of two base triangles, horizontally aligned, one smaller than the other, topped by a series of five smaller triangles vertically aligned and separated by a 3 mm space. Etched around the two base triangles are the words 'PATER / HUMANITARIAN SERVICES' and '28.3.87'.
Pater Award posthumously awarded to the late Australian war correspondent/photographer Neil Davis by the Australian Academy of Broadcast Arts & Sciences. The ceremony was held in the Sydney Opera House, on 28 March 1987, and the Australian War Memorial, which supplied a photo of Davis for the occasion, sent a film curator, Bryan Butler, to the event. Neil Davis was a combat cameraman who most notably covered the Vietnam War. He was killed during a coup in Thailand on 9 September 1985.
The Australian Academy of Broadcast Arts and Sciences had on its board prominent figures in the arts, such as Phillip Adams and Ita Buttrose; its Executive Director was, at the time of the award in 1987, Tony Mora.
