Rectangular gold painted tin with hinged lid. The lid is printed in black with the Australian coat of arms with the dates '1915' and '1916' on either side. Beneath this are the words 'TO OUR GALLANT AUSTRALIAN KINSMEN AT THE FRONT FROM THE AUSTRALIAN WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION, LONDON. WITH EVERY GOOD WISH TO ONE AND ALL XMAS 1915'.On the base of the tin the name and address of Mrs J Hargreaves is written in blue ink. The writing is very faint and mostly illegible.
For Christmas 1915 the Australian War Contingent Association in London produced and distributed to each Australian soldier a Christmas gift tin. This particular tin was given to 2375 Private George Hargreaves of 24 Battalion and sent home to his mother.
