Green armband worn by Scouts of 20 Battalion, AIF. December 1916 Military Instructions note that these brassards were intended for wear by: Runners - Red; Carrying Parties - Yellow; Scouts - Green; Signallers - Blue; Mopping-up Parties - White.
History / Summary
Specialists' armbands
For a period in 1917 a series of coloured bands, worn on a soldier's left forearm, were adopted to denote specialist roles during battle. This example was worn by Australian troops at Messines on 7 June 1917.
