Case for CP-16 movie camera and equipment: Neil Davis, Official War Correspondent
Description
Aluminium trunk with ridged finish, custom-made for carrying a CP-16 camera with carrying handle and clasps to the front. The interior is foam padded with compartments included for spare film magazines. The exterior is covered with stickers: 'NEIL DAVIS NBC NEWS'; 'NBC BANGKOK'; 'KOREAN AIRLINES'; 'THAI CARGO (BANGKOK-SYDNEY'". The makers plaque reads 'SAMCINE SALES LTD, LONDON'.
History / Summary
Samcine was a propriority name for Samuelson Film Services Ltd, a company in North London who sold and rented equipment to cinema companies, news broadcasters and production houses. The company was started in c 1954 and continued until 1998.
This custom-made case was used by Neil Davis to carry his CP-16 and spare magazines in when travelling. The stickers on the case indicate where he travelled; Neil Davis worked first as a cameraman and afterwards as the bureau chief for NBC New Bangkok. He was killed in Bangkok in 1985.
