History / Summary
Associated with the service of Walter Lionel Ekin Smyth. Ekin Smyth graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon in 1926 and was one of a select few invited to take up a commission with the British Army. He joined the Manchester Regiment and went on to serve on the Indian frontier with the Baluchistan Battalion in 1936 and in Burma during the Second World War. After the war, Ekin Smyth returned to Australia but later served in Pakistan where he was involved in establishing Pakistan's independence from the United Kingdom in 1947.
