Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX25962 Corporal Douglas Arthur Head, 2/2 Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Second Australian Imperial Force, Middle East, Australia and New Guinea, 1940-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains two folders of material relating to Corporal Douglas Arthur Head.

Folder 1 of 2 consists of one diary of Corporal Head, containing entries dated between March 1941 and late 1945. This diary was written while Corporal Head was serving with 2/2 Anti-Aircraft Regiment in the Middle East and New Guinea. In his brief diary entries, Corporal Head writes about sightseeing in Palestine, travelling to different camps, meeting friends, returning to Australia, visiting friends and family members while on leave, travelling to New Guinea, seeing air raids and aerial dog fights, manning anti-aircraft guns, returning to Australia for a period of leave, receiving new guns, taking part in an Allied landing on Borneo, guarding Japanese prisoners of war, and the formal Japanese surrender. This diary also contains notes, names and addresses of acquaintances, and lists of letters sent and received.
