Studio portrait of 436 Private (Pte) Oliver Arnold Harris, 33rd Battalion, of Uralla, NSW. A clerk before enlisting in January 1916, Pte Harris left Australia for England in May 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in November 1916. On promotion to Corporal in November 1917, Pte Harris was transferred to 3rd Division Headquarters, and received a further promotion to Sergeant (Sgt) in May 1918. Sgt Harris survived the war, and returned to Australia in June 1919. He was the older brother of 2324 Pte Edgar Harris, 33rd Battalion (see P05982.002).
