Description

Embroidered cloth patch for the 2nd Bomb Wing, United States Air Force. Patch features the motto 'LIBERTATEM DEFENDIMUS'" which translates to 'Liberty we defend'. At the top of the patch, are five vertical stripes in alternating black and green. In the central green stripe is a small white fleur de lis. Four blue bombs with white crosses are in the centre of the patch with a yellow background.

History / Summary

This item was collected from HMAS Kanimbla during Operation Slipper in 2001 and 2002. It was worn by a United States Air Force service person from 20 Bomb Squadron, which was stationed at Diego Garcia and conducted operational sorties to Afghanistan from there. This unit flies B-52 Stratofortress bombers and is normally based at Barksdale Air Force Base Louisiana.
