Description

Khaki canvas bag with cotton webbing strap. The bag is divided into two expanding pockets and is covered by a flap (approx. 160 mm) with two brass press studs. The inside of the flap has part of an instruction panel sewn into it. This is labelled “INSTRUCTION SHEET M 18A1 ANTIPERSONNEL MINE”. There is also a diagram that shows where to plant the mine.

The carrying strap (approx. 60 mm wide) is sewn to the full height of the back of the bag on both sides. The strap is 430 mm long each side and overlaps about 100 mm where they are sewn together.

History / Summary

2783900 Private Ross Frederick Wood was born in Sydney NSW on 19 May 1945. He served in Vietnam from 19 November 1966 to 12 May 1967. He initially served with 1 Australian Reinforcement Unit (1 ARU) from 19 November 1966 to 9 December 1966. He then served the rest of his tour with 5 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. Wood recovered this item when 1 ARU was on exercise at Nui Dat in November 1966.
