M57 Electrical Firing Device : Private R F Wood, 5 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment
Description
The M57 Electrical Firing Device for a Claymore mine is a green plastic rectangular shape with handle at the top. Underneath the handle is a rubber button. When the handle is pressed and hits the button the device produces a double (one positive, one negative) 3 volt electric pulse of energy to fire the electric blasting cap.
History / Summary
2783900 Private Ross Frederick Wood was born in Sydney NSW on 19 May 1945. He served in Vietnam from 19 November 1966 to 12 May 1967. He initially served with 1 Australian Reinforcement Unit (1 ARU) from 19 November 1966 to 9 December 1966. He then served the rest of his tour with 5 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. Wood recovered this item when 1 ARU was on exercise at Nui Dat in November 1966.
