Studio portrait of PA2231Stoker 2nd Class Cyril Francis Tansell, HMAS Penguin, of Cottonville, SA. Stoker Tansell was a refrigerator assembler before enlisting on 29 July 1941. He chose to join the Navy because his father had served in the Navy in the First World War. He joined the crew of HMAS Yarra on 3 January 1942, and was killed in action on 4 March 1942, at the age of 18, when the Yarra was sunk with the loss of 115 men.
