Studio portrait of 2399 Private (Pte) Francis Evans, 51st Battalion. A grazier and auctioneer from "Redcamp", Moyhu, Victoria, Pte Evans enlisted in Western Australia 3 April 1916 and embarked from Fremantle with the 5th Reinforcements, 51st Battalion, on 20 September 1916. Pte Evans was killed in action near Zonnebeke, Belgium on 13 October 1917. His brother Captain David Gerald Evans MC, 8th Battalion, died of wounds near Polygon Wood, Belgium on 20 September 1917.
