Studio portrait of 23464 Able Seaman (AB) Martin Curtis James, of Newcastle, NSW. A despatch clerk prior to enlistment, AB James was killed in action, aged 19, when HMAS Sydney II was sunk on 20 November 1941 in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Western Australia, by the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran.
