Studio portrait of 22831 Ordinary Seaman (OS) (later Able Seaman) Robert Underdown Ewens, HMAS Sydney, of Millswood, SA. OS Ewens enlisted in the Navy on 6 February 1939, and joined the crew of HMAS Sydney on 18 April 1940. He was killed in action on 20 November 1941, when HMAS Sydney sank following the battle with the German raider Kormoran.
