Studio portrait of 44 Private (Pte) George Edward Bonney, 32nd Battalion, of Unley, South Australia. Originally a printer's machinist with the Government Printing Office, Pte Boney enlisted in May 1915 and embarked on 18 November 1915 with A Company, 32nd Battalion, on HMAT Geelong. Soon after arriving in France for service on the Western Front, Pte Bonney became one of the first Australians killed during the battle of Fromelles, when he was shot soon after going over a parapet on 19 July 1916. Pte Bonney was 41 years old.
