Studio portrait of 4674 Private Reginald George Butcher, a railway porter from Adelaide, SA, who joined the AIF on 29 January 1916. Pte Butcher embarked on HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 11 April 1916 in Adelaide with a group of reinforcements for the 2nd Division. He joined the 27th Battalion in France on 19 September 1916 and was reported missing in action on 5 November 1916. Pte Butcher was wounded in action and captured by the Germans at Cambrai where he died of his wounds whilst a prisoner of war on 29 November 1916. He was buried by the Germans in the Porte de Paris Cemetery, Cambrai, France. He was 24 years old.
