Description
Studio wedding portrait of 2851 Private (Pte) Vincent Ronald Baker, 23rd Battalion, of Moama, NSW, with his bride Mary Jane Baker (nee Hand). Prior to enlisting in August 1915, Pte Baker had served for four years with the 67th Battalion, Citizens Military Forces. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) with the 6th Reinforcements on 27 October 1915. In March 1916 he was transferred to the 57th Battalion. While serving in Belgium, Pte Baker was among a group of four men killed by a shell at Zonnebeke on 15 October 1917, aged 23. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
