Description

Trench art made from Japanese Type 97 20 mm cartridge case. The cartridge case is bottlenecked and rimless in configuration. The top of the cartridge neck has been bellied out to resemble a flower head pattern. On the cartridge case is engraved a paradise island motif with a coconut palm, a scantily dressed female, and NEW GUINEA 1942/1943 - 4.

Japanese cartridge case decorated as trench art by Ray Evelyn, Gunner 2/9 AA Regiment and purchased by William Leo Kelly 2/9 AA Regiment in Lae, New Guinea in September 1943 for 10 Shillings.
