20 mm Type 97 Cartridge Case Trench Art
Description
Trench art made from Japanese Type 97 20mm cartridge case. The cartridge case is bottlenecked and rimless in configuration. The top of the cartridge neck has been bellied out to resemble a flower head pattern. On the cartridge case is etched a paradise island motif with a coconut palm and a scantily dressed female. Markings - NEW GUINEA 1942; 1943 - 4.
History / Summary
Japanese cartridge case decorated as trench art by Ray Evelyn, Gunner 2/9 AA Regiment and purchased by William Leo Kelly 2/9 AA Regiment in Lae, New Guinea in September 1943 for 10 Shillings.
