Studio portrait of 645 Sergeant (Sgt) Alexander Moffatt Rae, 19th Battalion. A clerk from Pymble, NSW, Sgt Rae enlisted in March 1915 and on 25 June 1915 embarked with B Company from Melbourne on HMAT Ceramic. Sgt Rae was badly wounded on 14 November 1916 when a shell hit his trench at Flers, France; he died soon after. He was 24 years old.
