Studio portrait, taken prior to enlistment, of 5006 Private (Pte) Edward Dingle, 16th Battalion (later 49th Battalion) of Miriam Vale, Qld. A labourer before enlisting on 11 February 1916, Pte Dingle embarked from Brisbane on HMAT Seang Choon on 4 May 1916 with the 13th Reinforcements. He died of wounds in France on 5 February 1917, at the age of 25. His brother, 5009 Percy Dingle, embarked with him and served in the same units; he was killed in action in France on 2 November 1918.
