Studio portrait of 2015 Private (Pte) Stanley Charles Perrett, 7th Battalion, of Port Melbourne, originally of Geelong, Vic. A farrier before enlisting in January 1915, Pte Perrett left Australia for Egypt with the 5th Reinforcements in April 1915 and arrived on Gallipoli in November 1915. After the withdrawal from the peninsular to Egypt, Pte Perrett transferred to the 59th Battalion as part of the 'doubling-up' of the AIF in February 1916, and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June 1916. Pte Perrett was killed in action during the 5th Division's attack on German positions at Fromelles on the night of 19/20th July 1916. According to his Red Cross Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau file, he was last seen severely wounded on a stretcher in the middle of No Mans Land, however was never bought back to the Australian lines. Aged 23 at the time of his deah, Pte Perrett has no known grave
