Description
Studio portrait of 6953 Private (Pte) Pasquelino (Pasco) Gatti, 11th Battalion, of Norseman, WA. A civil servant before enlisting in May 1916, Pte Gatti left Australia for England with the 23rd Reinforcements in December 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June 1917. Promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal (LCpl) in February 1918, LCpl Gatti was wounded whilst in the line near Strazeele and was evacuated to the 15th Casualty Clearing Station at Ebblinghem where he died on 12 May 1918, aged 20. LCpl Gatti is the younger brother of 4333 Sapper Angelo Gatti, Number 6 Tunneling Company, who died of pneumonia at Capetown, South Africa, on 22 June 1916 (see P07844.002).
