Portrait of S5203 Stoker Third Class (Sto III) Jack Stephen Trenbath, RAN, of Wickham, NSW. Sto III Trenbath's ambition had been to to join the RAN, and he enlisted on 27 February 1941. Sto III Trenbath was killed in action, aged 17, when HMAS Sydney II was sunk in the Indian Ocean by the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran on 20 November 1941. After Sto III Trenbath's death, his brother N10552 Gunner Keith William Trenbath, 1 Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, transferred to the RAN. Stoker Second Class Keith Trenbath was killed in action when the ship on which he was serving, HMAS Armidale, was attacked and sunk by Japanese aircraft, north west of Darwin, on 1 December 1942. He was aged 21.
