Description
Early grave marker of 2347 Private (Pte) Robert Burns Laurie, 36th Battalion, of Laurieton, NSW, at Trois-Arbres Military Cemetery at Steenwerck, France. A shop assistant before enlisting in May 1916, Pte Laurie left Australia for England with the 4th Reinforcements in October 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in March 1917. Pte Laurie was severely wounded during the 3rd Division's attack on Messine Ridge on 10 June 1917 and was evacuated to the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station at Steenwerck, France, where he died two days later, aged 20.
