The Road to Flers
Description
Depicts the war-ravaged landscape of the road to Flers in the Somme region. In the centre is a Wagon GS vehicle submerged in the muddy terrain. The wheels to the extreme left appear to be a set of steering wheels from one of the Mark 1 tanks used at Flers. Barren, war damaged trees scattered across the horizon further emphasise this ravaged landscape and the impact of war. Flers is situated in the Somme region, to the south of the road between Albert and Bapaume.
