Two-up set: used at TG 633.2 on Anzac Day 2003
Two-up set, consisting of a wooden kip, and two copper coins. The kip has two circular indents machined into the wood for the coins, and a hole at the top of the handle for hanging on a hook. The hole is covered on the upper side by a round disc with 'TWO / UP' in raised lettering in the centre of the disc. On the obverse of each coin is a bounding kangaroo in raised detail, with the seven pointed 'Star of Federation' to the left of the feet and '2001' under the tail, both in raised detail. Above the tail is the maker's initials 'MS'. In raised detail above the kangaroo is written 'THE SPIRIT', and below is 'AUSTRALIA'. The outside edge of each coin is raised, and there is an inner border of raised dots on both sides of each coin. In the middle of each coin, on the reverse, is the rising sun badge, in raised detail. Surrounding this is a raised ring with 'TEAMWORK / COURAGE / INITIATIVE' impressed into it. Outside the ring, in raised detail, is '100 YEARS SERVICE TO THE NATION / 1901-2001'. A white 'X' has been painted on the obverse of each coin with liquid paper, to signify 'heads' when in use. The set is in it's original packing and contains an abridged version of the rules, with the maker's details printed on the reverse.
This two-up set was purchased by Warrant Officer Paul Dowdle, prior to deploying to the Middle East as part of Operation Falconer. The white crosses were painted on the coins by Corporal Shayne Riley to make it easier to see 'heads' when playing.
This set was used on ANZAC Day 2003, after the commemorative events had concluded. The game was held in the Canadian combined services mess, run by Squadron Leader Mike Netherton.
Leading Aircraftwoman Cassie Spain won over 150 United Arab Emirates Dirhams (just over $50 Australian Dollars) in her first ever game. Other participants in the game were Wing Commander Guy Burton, Sergeants 'Gus' Augostis and 'Waffle' Carville, Leading Aircraftman Brett McMurragh, and several Canadian service personnel.
