Description

A letter written on the pages of a troopship serial - 'The Ayrshire Furphy' - by 5074 Acting Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Clyde Henry Rendell of 13/21 Battalion, to his brother Percy during July - August 1916. The letter describes L/Cpl Rendell's impressions of the voyage on A33 HMAT Ayrshire. The signatures of those aboard the troopship appear on the pages of the serial. L/Cpl Rendell was killed in action at Villers Bretonneux, France on 6 July 1918 and is buried in the Villers Bretonneux Military Cemetery.
