Collection relating to the Second World War experience of W J Eve [thought to be William J ‘Bill’ Eve], War Correspondent, Netherlands Indies Government Information Service (NIGIS), Australia, Indonesia and Philippines, 1943-1946.

Wallet 1 of 2 – Consists of two diaries hand-written by W J Eve, dated 1945 to 1946.

The first diary is dated from 25 May to 22 December 1945. In this diary, Eve writes about his movements across Indonesia and the Dutch East Indies, as he records audio for the NIGIS. He includes logs of his ‘Details of Recorded Material’. This diary also contains transcripts of audio recordings by W J Eve. The first transcript records an interview between Lieutenant Hank Zwart and T Rothfield, titled ‘The Motor Pool. NICA XII’, [undated], an interview between T Rothfield and ‘V H’ (unknown identity), [undated], and a narrated script titled ‘The Armoured Car That Was’nt’ by T Rothfield, 19 July [year unknown].

The second diary is dated from 8 February 31 to March 1946. In this diary, Eve writes about his experiences and involvement in establishing a radio station in Makassar, Indonesia. This diary also contains two stories written by Eve, titled ‘The Gold Handled Kiss’, and ‘The Silver Seeds’. The two stories relate to his experience attending an Indonesian wedding in Makassar.

Wallet 2 of 2 – Consists of publications related to W J Eve, dated from 1943 to 1946.

This wallet contains a copy of PIX vol 12, no 2, dated 10 July 1943. This Australian publication contains various articles and images relating to the Second World War. This wallet also contains one copy of ‘Brigade Weekly’ No 2 newsletter, dated 31 March 1946. In this newsletter Bill Eve, [thought to be W J Eve], shares a story of his colleague Gordon Lloyd’s experience as a War Correspondent in Makassar, Indonesia.
