Group portrait of the Beattie brothers of Queensland. From the left: QX13017 Private, later Corporal and Acting Sergeant (A/Sgt), Stephen John Edward Beattie, 2/15 Battalion. Cpl Steven Beattie died of illness related to his military service on 17 March 1947, aged 37; QX33551 Sergeant Dudley Ernest Beattie, 31/51 Battalion; QX3045 Lieutenant Edwin Kitchener Beattie, 2/9th Battalion; QX45686 Sergeant Austin George Beattie, 19 Battalion; 404228 Flight Lieutenant Roy McDowell Beattie DFC, No. 24 Squadron. Flt Lt Beattie was killed when his aircraft, Liberator A72-64, was hit by enemy fire and crashed near Balikpapan, Borneo, on 2 July 1945. He was 25 years of age.
