404228 Flying Officer (FO, later Flight Lieutenant [Flt Lt]) Roy McDowall Beattie RAAF, 142 Squadron, RAF, of Gympie Qld, outside Buckingham Palace after he was presented with the Distinguished Flying Medal. Flt Lt Beattie was lost on operations over Borneo on July 2, 1945, while flying with 24 Squadron, RAAF. He is buried in the Labuan War Cemetery in Malaysia.
