Crapp, Hedley Spencer
Collection of original letters sent to his family in Australia by NX40492 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Hedley Spencer Crapp, and written from Malaya in 1941 before he became a prisoner of war of the Japanese in Sandakan, North Borneo. Three of the letters were written to his daughter Jill, who was a young girl at the time. These letters, including one written inside an illustrated Christmas card, mention Jill's older sister Lola, as well as the presents he bought to send home to the girls. The fourth letter was written on a small thin wooden card, with accompanying envelope, from L/Cpl Crapp to his brother Lawrence Stanley (Stan) in Australia, wishing him a 'Happy Xmas and prosperous New Year' from Singapore where he was on leave. L/Cpl Crapp served with 2/18 Battalion (Infantry) and died from illness in Borneo on 23 April 1945.
